Depression and wellness: professional support comes first

Home › Blog and massage guides

Depression is an illness, not simply a bad day. People affected deserve reliable support and appropriate treatment. A wellness massage cannot cure depression.

In brief

Seek medical or psychotherapeutic support for signs of depression. Consider wellness only if it is appropriate for you and permitted by the studio terms.

Get proper support first

A family doctor can be a first point of contact for persistent low mood, loss of interest or marked fatigue. IQWiG describes psychotherapy and medication as important treatment options depending on the situation.

If you are in immediate danger

If you feel at risk of harming yourself or have concrete suicidal thoughts, seek immediate help. In Germany call 112 or go to a psychiatric emergency department. Do not stay alone in an acute crisis. A wellness appointment is not crisis care.

An optional activity, not a measure of recovery

Some people enjoy a quiet, self-chosen activity. During depression, touch may also feel unwelcome. You do not have to accept a treatment to prove that you are trying to get better.

The Sabayking conditions

The studio terms exclude serious psychological conditions. Discuss suitability with your treating professional and the studio before considering any visit. Sabayking does not offer massage as a treatment for depression.
